NDDC SPORTS FESTIVAL: WRESTLING, BOXING AND SWIMMING Showcasing Talents.
Ahead of the forthcoming Niger Delta Development Commission Sports Festival, associations braces off in local government trials in search of more athletes that will form the state delegate to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
Trails were held in Swimming, Boxing, and football.
Wrestlers also took to the mat, were young and vibrant athletes showcased themselves, and announced their readiness to feature at the games.
Technical Adviser on Sports Development, Hon. Alaowei Opukeme, expressed delight with their turn out and enthusiasm of the athletes, commended the coaches and sporting associations for their dedication, adding that with what he had seen, Bayelsa will mount the podium at the end of the games.
He said, "Am delighted with what am seeing here. I have been to the swimming event, and I just witnessed that of boxing and wrestling. Am proud of the athletes, and I can see their commitment. Everyone wants to go to Uyo, and that's a good spirit. I believe that Bayelsa will give a good outing in Uyo."
Also speaking, young swimmer, Richman Bedford who spoke is his local dialect, said he was determined to make the list and win a medal at the games.
He said, "a swimming coach came to my school and asked anyone who can swim to come out for training and I was encouraged to do so.
"I swam and came out first and also came first for the second time. I was told by the coach that my name will be shortlisted for the local government trials."
"I have also come first for this trials! I am ever ready to become first anytime I am called upon to swim."
The trials continues today in other sporting events
